Before you book

Questions people ask us most

How do I book an appointment?

Use the form on this page, call +91 93227 03859, or send us a WhatsApp message. We confirm your time within 24 hours, and usually much sooner during clinic hours. There is normally a slot free the same week.

Does cataract surgery hurt?

No. The eye is numbed with drops, so you feel a little pressure and see moving lights, but not pain. You stay awake and relaxed, and it usually takes under 20 minutes for one eye.

Your eye may feel scratchy or water a little for a day or two. That is normal, and the drops you are given settle it.

How soon will I see properly again?

After cataract surgery most people see more clearly within a day or two, and it keeps improving over the next few weeks. Desk work is usually fine after a couple of days.

After laser vision correction most people are back on a screen within two days. You get a simple written recovery plan, and we see you the day after your procedure.

Can I get rid of my glasses?

Many people can, but not everyone. It depends on the shape and thickness of your cornea, your power, and whether that power has stayed the same for about a year. You should be 18 or over, and not pregnant or breastfeeding.

The only way to know is a proper eye test here. If laser treatment is not right for you, we will say so plainly and talk you through the other options.

Will I still need glasses after cataract surgery?

It depends on the lens we put in. A standard lens gives you sharp distance vision, but you will usually still need reading glasses. Other lenses are made to reduce how much you need glasses at all. Dr. Mashru will tell you what to realistically expect for your own eyes, including the downsides, before you decide.

Can a cataract come back?

No. Once it is removed it cannot come back. Some people later get a light cloudiness behind the new lens. It is common, it is harmless, and it is cleared in a few painless minutes with a laser here at the clinic.

How often should I get my eyes checked?

Every one to two years for most adults. Every year if you have diabetes, are over 40, take steroids long term, or someone in your family has glaucoma. Children should be checked before they start school, and any time a teacher says they cannot see the board.

When should I come in straight away?

If you suddenly lose vision, have bad eye pain, suddenly see a lot of new floaters or flashes, see a shadow like a curtain across your vision, or hurt your eye or get something in it. Do not wait for an appointment. Call +91 93227 03859 right away, or go to the nearest hospital emergency department if you cannot reach us.

Does insurance cover it?

Cataract and most retina treatments are covered by most health insurance policies, depending on your waiting period and limits. Laser treatment to remove glasses usually is not. Bring your policy papers to your visit and our team will check what you are entitled to and do the paperwork for you.

Cataract surgery / Femto cataract (Robotic surgery)

A cataract is when the natural lens inside your eye slowly turns cloudy, so things look blurred, faded or hazy, and headlights start to glare at night. We remove the cloudy lens and put a clear one in its place.

You can have it done the standard way, by hand, or with femto laser, where a computer guided laser makes the openings and softens the cataract before we take it out. Femto is bladeless and adds a level of accuracy the hand cannot match, which helps most when the lens is hard or you are having a premium lens fitted. We will tell you which one actually suits your eye.

Either way it takes about 20 minutes for one eye. You are awake, the eye is numbed with drops only, there are no stitches, and you go home the same day.

Lasik surgery

Laser treatment that reshapes the front surface of your eye so you can see clearly without glasses or contact lenses.

We measure the thickness and shape of your cornea first, because that is what decides whether it is safe for you and which method suits you. Most people are back on a screen within two days. If laser is not right for your eyes, we will say so.

Complete eye check up

One visit that covers everything: how well you see, the pressure inside your eyes, the front of the eye under the microscope, and the retina at the back.

This is the check that finds the things you cannot feel yet. Glaucoma and early diabetic damage both cause no pain and no early warning, and both are far easier to treat when they are caught early.

Dry eye treatment

Burning, watering, gritty or tired eyes are usually a problem with your tear film, and they are very common if you spend the day on screens. Watering eyes are often a dry eye problem too, which surprises most people.

We examine the tear film properly and give you a plan that fits the cause, rather than another bottle of lubricating drops.

Retina and glaucoma care

The retina is the light sensitive layer at the back of your eye. Glaucoma is damage caused by pressure building up inside it. Both can take your sight slowly and quietly, with no pain to warn you.

We scan for both here at the clinic, and treat them here too. If you have diabetes, a yearly retina check is the single most useful thing you can do for your eyes.
